Privacy at Riverview

Reading an explainer should not cost you your privacy. This page sets out, in plain terms, what information is involved when you visit Riverview Studios Tech or write to us, why it exists and what you can do about it.

The site is built from static files

Each page here is prepared in advance and delivered as a finished file. There are no reader accounts, no comment boxes, no newsletter sign-up and no shopping basket. We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, tracking pixels, social media widgets or fingerprinting scripts. Nothing on these pages builds a profile of you or follows you to other websites.

The cookie choice

On your first visit, a small card asks whether you accept or decline cookies. Your answer is stored in your browser's local storage so the card does not reappear on every page. That entry stays on your device, is never sent to us and does not identify you. Clearing your browser's site data removes it, and the card will simply ask again. More detail is on How We Use Cookies Here.

Hosting logs

Like any website, this one is delivered by a hosting provider whose servers keep short technical logs when pages are requested. A log entry typically includes the IP address of the request, the date and time, the page requested, the browser type and whether the request succeeded. These logs exist to keep the service running, to spot faults and to defend against abuse. They are not used to profile visitors, they are not combined with other data and they are deleted after a limited period set by the provider.

When you email us

If you write to the address on Get a Message to Us, we receive what you choose to send: your email address, your name if you include it and the content of your message. We use it only to read and answer your note and, where you report an error, to fix the article. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not pass your message to anyone else unless the law requires it. Correspondence is deleted once it no longer serves a purpose, usually after the matter is resolved.

Links to other sites

Some articles link to external websites. Once you follow such a link, the other site's own privacy practices apply, and we have no control over what it collects. It is worth reading their notice before sharing anything personal there.

Your rights

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another region with similar laws, the GDPR and comparable rules give you rights over personal data held about you. These include the right to ask what we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its use and to receive a copy in a portable format. Because we hold so little, most requests concern emails you have sent us. To use any of these rights, write to us from the address you used before so we can match the request. You may also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

Our explainers are aimed at grown-up readers, and we never knowingly gather details from children. A parent who believes a child has emailed us can ask for that message to be deleted.

Changes to this page

If the way the site works changes, for example if a new feature handles data differently, this page will be updated before that change goes live. The terms that govern use of the site are on Reading the Small Print.
